Breast cancer remains the second leading cause of cancer deaths among American women, and both men and women should be aware that age, obesity, genetics, and family history are factors that can contribute to the risk of developing this disease. Breast cancer elicits so many fears, including those relating to surgery, death, loss of body image and loss of sexuality. Breast cancer is four hundred timesmore common in women who are 50 years old as compared to those who are 20 yearsold. Our goal is to fight breast cancer each day by spreading awareness and contributing to breast cancer research, education, and prevention programs. The National Football League will support October's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with national public service announcements, special pregame ceremonies and team community outreach. Teams will designate home games in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and plan special in-stadium or pregame events with local organizations. It works through a nationwide education campaign aimed at the general public, state and federal governments, health care professionals, employers, and women of all ages and ethnic groups. Program Leaders who run NBCAM programs are community volunteers, health professionals and breast cancer survivors.
